Every crystal you bring into your home carries energy — from the earth it formed in, the hands that touched it, and the intentions placed upon it. Cleansing and charging your crystals is one of the most sacred acts of crystal stewardship, and here at Sisters Grimm, it's something we take seriously. Every piece that leaves our hands has been charged under the Full Moon for maximum potency. Here's how you can continue that practice at home.
Why Cleanse Your Crystals?
Crystals are energetic sponges. They absorb the vibrations of their environment — stress, negativity, stagnant energy — and over time, that accumulation can dull their effectiveness. Regular cleansing resets them back to their natural, high-vibrational state.
Methods for Cleansing
Moonlight — The gentlest and most universally safe method. Place your crystals on a windowsill or outside under the Full Moon overnight. This is our preferred method at Sisters Grimm, and the one we use on every piece before it reaches you.
Running water — Hold your crystal under cool running water for 30–60 seconds while visualising the energy washing away. Note: this method is not suitable for water-soluble crystals like Selenite, Halite, or raw Malachite.
Sound — Use a singing bowl, tuning fork, or even a bell. The vibration moves through the crystal and dislodges stagnant energy. This is ideal for large collections or delicate pieces.
Smoke — Pass your crystal through the smoke of sacred herbs like white sage, palo santo, or rosemary. Set your intention as you do so.
Earth — Bury your crystal in the earth (or a pot of soil) for 24–48 hours to allow the earth to draw out and neutralise unwanted energy.
How to Charge Your Crystals
Charging amplifies your crystal's natural energy and aligns it with your intention. The most powerful method is moonlight — particularly the Full Moon, when lunar energy is at its peak.
Full Moon charging ritual:
- Cleanse your crystals first using any of the methods above.
- Set them out at sunset on the night of the Full Moon — on a windowsill, balcony, or directly on the earth.
- Hold each crystal briefly and whisper or think your intention into it.
- Leave them overnight and collect them in the morning before direct sunlight hits (some crystals, like Amethyst and Rose Quartz, can fade in prolonged sun).
You can also charge crystals on a Selenite charging plate, in sunlight (for sun-safe stones like Clear Quartz and Citrine), or by placing them on a piece of sacred geometry.
Which Crystals Need Extra Care?
Some crystals are sensitive to water, sunlight, or salt. As a general rule:
- Water-sensitive: Selenite, Desert Rose, Halite, Malachite, Pyrite
- Sun-sensitive (may fade): Amethyst, Rose Quartz, Aquamarine, Fluorite, Citrine
- Salt-sensitive: Polished or layered stones — salt can scratch surfaces
When in doubt, moonlight is always safe.
